MIAMI ā A quiet neighborhood near Liberty City was shaken early Tuesday morning after a shooting claimed the life of an individual on the final day of the year.
Miami police responded to reports of gunfire around 5:30 a.m. at a home on Northwest 47th Street and 10th Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers said they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Neighbors described the incident as shocking and uncharacteristic for the area.
āWell, Iām stunned,ā said Barbara, who lives nearby. āYou know, Iām sad because somebodyās life (is) at stake.ā
For hours, officers combed through the property near the two-story home where the victim was found, documenting evidence and photographing the scene. A larger crime scene unit was later called in to assist in the investigation.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, but neighbors speculated on the circumstances.
āThings happen, itās Christmas time, and people get in their feelings,ā Barbara added. āYou never (know) what (could happen.ā
Despite the uncertainty, neighbors expressed hope that justice will prevail.
āYou know, itās quiet, you donāt hear no nothing,ā Barbara said. āSo thatās what Iām saying, for this to go on right here, what the heck. Especially right up in there, thatās very quiet.ā
Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine what led to the early morning violence. Police have not yet released the age or identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
