FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Isaiah LaFleur was 18 years old when he crashed while driving a red Chevrolet Camaro. Detectives reported the high school student collided with a black 2013 Yamaha motorscooter and the impact ejected and killed a man along Stirling Road in Hollywood.
The fatal crash was on Dec. 19, 2021, in Hollywood. According to Hollywood Detective Alejandro Falcon’s report, surveillance video helped detectives estimate the scooter was traveling within the speed limit while LeFleur was going over 70 mph.

A witness told police LaFleur quickly stopped after the crash, rushed out of the Camaro, and ran to check on the victim. He waited for police officers. Falcon issued him three traffic citations.
“This crash would not have occurred had LaFleur operated his vehicle at or near the speed limit and used due caution when overtaking another vehicle,” Falcon wrote.
LaFleur was able to graduate from high school months after the crash. His plans to go to college were delayed. LaFleur, now 20, is a father. For the last few years, as he awaits trial for the crash, he has been in and out of jail in both Miami-Dade and Broward. He hasn’t been convicted of a crime.
Records show Broward Sheriff’s Office pre-trial release specialists have reported he has struggled to abide by the limits of house arrest with violations in 2022, 2023, and July. BSO correctional deputies have been holding him at the main jail without bond since Friday.
After Hollywood detectives’ investigated the crash, Broward prosecutors filed a felony case against LaFleur on May 31, 2022. He faced three charges: One count of vehicular homicide and two counts of reckless driving causing property damage.
Meanwhile, in Miami-Dade, LaFleur had a pending March 17, 2022 felony case that prosecutors dropped on April 26, 2022. Broward County Circuit Judge N. Hunter Davis, who is presiding over the case for the crash, issued an arrest warrant for LaFleur on June 1, 2022.
LaFleur voluntarily surrendered to BSO on Sept. 12, 2022, at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale. He appeared before Broward County Circuit Judge Phoebee Francois during a bond court hearing on Sept. 13, 2022.
A prosecutor said he had pending Miami-Dade cases for allegedly hitting his sister and for a 2021 police pursuit. His defense said he wanted to get a job to be able to save money for college. Francois set his bond at $47,000, placed him on pre-trial release, and banned him from driving or traveling.
LaFleur’s arraignment for the crash in Broward was on Sept. 21, 2022. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. LaFleur posted a $1,000 bond on Oct. 11, 2022, and entered into a house arrest agreement with BSO on Oct. 19, 2022.
LaFleur had more legal troubles in Miami-Dade. Records show Miami-Dade police officers arrested him on Nov. 3, 2022, for attempted battery. There was a Broward bond status hearing on Nov. 4, 2022. Miami-Dade prosecutors dropped the battery case on Dec. 6, 2022.
Broward County court records show Hunter has given LaFleur several chances to be able to continue his pre-trial release program.
The first violation a BSO specialist reported was on Dec. 22, 2022. The specialist accused him of an unauthorized outing with his GPS monitor to Wilton Manors and Pompano Beach. Hunter issued an arrest warrant a day later.
LaFleur was arrested on Jan. 5, 2023, at the probation office, and after his defense requested his release, Hunter granted it on Jan. 6, 2023. LaFleur entered into his second BSO pre-trial release agreement a few days later.
On June 22, 2023, LaFleur’s defense asked Hunter to allow him to work so he could help his mother with living expenses. A few days later, Hunter agreed to change the terms of the pre-trial release as long as he wore a GPS monitor.
On March 15, Hunter granted the 19-year-old defendant’s request to visit his son in Wilton Manors with pre-approval. Miami-Dade police officers arrested him for battery on May 16 and he was released on a $1,000 bond on May 23 — only to be rearrested that same day in Broward.
Miami-Dade prosecutors dropped the battery case on July 9. With that case resolved, his defense in Broward requested that Hunter reinstate his pre-trial release. LaFleur entered his third house arrest agreement with BSO on July 18.
A BSO pre-trial services specialist reported on Aug. 2 that he had violated the terms of his pre-trial release again during unauthorized outings on July 30-31. Hunter issued a warrant on Aug. 9.
