Police ID suspect after man shot dead at The Village at Gulfstream Park

Detectives search for additional suspects

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Police have identified a woman who they said fatally shot a man near Strike Ten Bowling in Hallandale Beach in early April.

According to Hallandale Beach police, the incident reportedly stemmed from a previous altercation in Miami Gardens.

Brianna Jameelah Purcell, 29, a convicted felon, is currently incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County on unrelated robbery charges.

Hallandale Beach police said 36-year-old Latoya Arnold was shot dead on April 3 at The Village at Gulfstream Park.

According to authorities, officers responded to the 800 block of Silks Run near Strike Ten Bowling after receiving reports about a shooting around 1:30 a.m.

Local 10 News obtained body camera footage on Monday where police were seen responding to the scene of a shooting

Authorities say Purcell had a prior altercation with Arnold, and they believe multiple people were involved in the incident.

The body cam footage captures the chaos and distress as police arrived, with screaming heard at the scene, according to police.

Hallandale Beach police Capt. Aaron Smith told Local 10 News reporter Rosh Lowe back in April that he believed the shooting was considered to be an “isolated incident” and was not related to a hate crime.

Police said back in April the suspect and victim were known to each other but a motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.

Authorities said Purcell will be extradited to Broward County, where she will be held without bond and is expected to face a murder charge.

Despite Purcell’s arrest, Hallandale Beach Police Capt. Megan Jones said they are still searching for additional suspects and anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
