Miami-Dade PD: Woman arrested after fleeing traffic stop, causing multiple crashes while having 2 toddlers in vehicle

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 33-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on multiple charges after she fled the scene of a traffic stop, caused two collisions and then struck a police officer’s parked vehicle, authorities said.

According to her arrest report, the incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the area of Southwest 115th Avenue and 185th Street.

Miami-Dade police said Alexis Deshayla Harris, of Miami, was driving a gray Ford pickup truck when a sergeant witnessed her failing to stop at a stop sign at Southwest 114th Avenue and 189th Street.

Police said the sergeant pulled her over, but Harris then accelerated forward and made a sharp right turn onto 187th Terrace.

According to the report, the sergeant got back into his vehicle and followed Harris.

Police said Harris caused two crashes and then continued fleeing to the area of Southwest 107th Avenue and 181st Street where she struck a marked police vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a home.

Harris was then taken into custody.

Police said two children, ages 2 and 3, were found inside the truck. One of the children was sitting on the front passenger’s lap and the other was sitting in between the driver and passenger, authorities said.

According to the report, the passenger is a convicted felon who was armed with a gun and was in possession of narcotics.

Harris faces charges of child neglect without great bodily harm, aggravated fleeing and eluding police after an accident, fleeing and eluding police at a high speed, reckless driving causing damage to a person or property and driving with a suspended license.
