Broward high school student accused of striking peer in head with tire iron

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – An 18-year-old student was booked into the Broward County Main Jail Thursday, months after he struck another student on the side of the head with a tire iron, authorities said.

The attack happened Oct. 5, 2023, outside Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs.

The suspect, Gray Hill, was 17 when the attack occurred, but he is being charged as an adult in the case.

He faces two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to a police report, the victim told police that he was walking to the parking lot south of the school campus after dismissal when he noticed he was being followed by a group of students.

Police said the victim was initially confronted by another student who struck him.

The victim told officers that he ran away, but fell, at which time multiple students began to attack him.

According to the police report, the victim’s necklace was broken during the attack and someone stole his Gucci slides.

Police said cellphone video shows Hill striking the victim multiple times while he was on the ground.

Another video shows him striking the victim multiple times with a tire iron, according to the report.

Police said the school’s security manager identified Hill from the video.

As of Friday morning, Hill remained in jail on a $15,000 bond.
