MIAMI – A seaplane went down in the waters near PortMiami Friday afternoon.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, seven people were aboard the Cessna 208 when it went down in the Main Channel, between the north side of the port and the MacArthur Causeway.
Video from Sky 10 showed the single-engine plane tipped on its side with its propeller still moving. Crews later towed it to the Miami Seaplane Base on Watson Island.
All aboard were “out of the (plane) and out of the water,” an MDFR spokesperson said. No one was hurt.
It’s not yet clear what caused the plane to go down. People from a nearby padel club ran over to see what had happened.
“(It was) more like a thump, like something hitting the water, like a big splash,” Alex Jaimes, who heard the hard landing, said. “I did see people rushing over there. You saw the boats, the police officers, and there was a big pa, pa, everybody going over there.”
According to FlightAware, the plane took off from Palm Beach International Airport at 1:04 p.m. and was last seen on radar at 1:37 p.m.
According to data from the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was manufactured in 1995 and is registered to Willis Lease Finance Corporation in Marin, California.
