The crash, which happened in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day on Northwest 207th Street, killed 31-year-old mother-to-be Eddie Pascale Aurelien and injured her sister.

Eddie Pascale Aurelien

Aurelien was making a left turn into her apartment complex when Mitchell, who was driving a rented white Mercedes, attempted to pass her Kia Optima on the two-lane road and slammed into her vehicle, ejecting her onto the roadway, according to an arrest warrant.

The force of the crash caused the Mercedes to roll over, ejecting Mitchell’s girlfriend, who was also pregnant, police wrote. The crash also damaged several parked cars.

Information obtained from the vehicle’s event data recorder showed Mitchell was driving 109 mph in a 30 mph zone, the warrant states.

Police wrote that after the crash, Mitchell picked up his girlfriend and fled the scene without rendering aid to Aurelien or her sister or calling police. The two headed to Mitchell’s house, police said.

Police said Mitchell’s mother noticed the two were injured and called 911.

When officers arrived, Mitchell told police that he had just been involved in a crash up the street, but claimed he was getting a ride home in the Mercedes from “a guy at a party” whom he had just met, the report states. Mitchell claimed the fictitious driver fled the scene and that he had never been in the car before, officers wrote.

According to the arrest warrant, that was a lie.

They said a rental agreement showed Mitchell had possession of the car and that, along with social media photos, showed that it was, in fact, not his first time in the vehicle.

Police wrote that, during an interview at Aventura Hospital, Mitchell’s girlfriend confirmed that he had rented and was driving the vehicle at the time. She told officers that her unborn twins survived.

Mitchell faces a charge of vehicular homicide plus multiple counts of leaving the scene of a crash.
