Astute nurse, Good Samaritan help man, 91, to be reunited with family

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – An elderly man missing from Miami was located in Miami Beach, after help from a Good Samaritan and an astute nurse, according to family.

Yu Cheung Wong, 91, had been missing since New Year’s Eve.

“My grandmother stepped away to do some laundry and came back and he was gone. His cane was gone. He had left,” said Wong’s granddaughter Lucy Wong.

Wong said her grandfather used to use Miami-Dade County transit frequently to visit area casinos and malls. But after a recent fall, he began having memory issues. She believes he got on a bus at Biscayne Boulevard and 79th street on Thursday.

Two days later, Wong said a detective told her a passerby on Miami Beach noticed her grandfather walking around the north end of South Beach. The Good Samaritan told police Wong appeared to be disoriented.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel took Wong to Mount Sinai Medical Center where an astute nurse helped to reunite him with his family.

“A nurse, I guess the night shift into the morning, saw [on] Channel 10, and recognized him and called it in,” Wong said.

The family has spoken to him via FaceTime and said they plan to bring him home soon.
