HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A woman was fatally shot Tuesday at an apartment complex in Homestead, authorities said.
The killing was reported at 2:47 p.m. at the Homestead Colony Apartments at 814 E. Mowry Drive.
Miami-Dade police identified the victim as Ashley Francois, 24.
Witnesses told Local 10 News that Francois, who had family and friends who lived at the apartment complex, was shot several times while standing on a second-floor breezeway.
"All of a sudden, we heard the gunshots. We jumped on the floor. We all ducked down. We heard maybe six or seven gunshots," Angelic Castro said. "After we heard it, we heard -- I think it was the sister -- screaming and yelling. We went up the stairs and the young lady was right in front of the door, on the floor. There was blood on the wall."
Castro and other neighbors rushed to try to help the victim.
"All I did was hug her sister because there were two other gentlemen holding her down, trying to keep her awake, trying to keep her up. And from what I saw of her in the ambulance, she was still awake," Castro said.
Witnesses said the shooter was a man dressed all in black.
Francois was taken to Homestead Hospital and was then airlifted to Jackson South Community Hospital.
She died in surgery.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Detective K. Thelwell at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
