Pembroke Pines teacher accused of sending porn, sexual text messages to student

Sylvers Robinson, 29, arrested after boy, 14, tells mom about teacher's messages

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A teacher at a Pembroke Pines school is accused of sending pornography and inappropriate text messages to a 14-year-old student.

Sylvers Robinson, 29, of Miami, was arrested Monday. He is a teacher at Harvard International Academy, where the teenager is a student.

Pembroke Pines police said Robinson began to take a special interest in the student, making comments about his attire and standing close to the boy.

"He liked me more than the other kids," the teenager told Local 10 News reporter Carlos Suarez. "He treated me different. He would be mean to the kids, but he would treat me like I'm a king."

According to an arrest report, Robinson snatched the boy's cellphone from him while they were at school Sept. 5 and searched through the phone, dialing a telephone number and hanging up. Later that day, police said, the boy began receiving text messages from Robinson, who called him "cute" and asked if he was a virgin. Police said Robinson also asked the boy to accept his Instagram request and sent the boy a picture of a man having oral sex.

Police said Robinson continued to make sexual innuendos and sent a shirtless picture of himself to the boy's phone. This time, however, an undercover detective posing as the boy received them.

The boy's mother called police after he told her that a teacher at his school was making him feel uncomfortable.

Police said the undercover detective continued to communicate with Robinson. Among the topics Robinson discussed, according to the report, were the boy's penis size and what he was wearing in bed.

After his arrest, Robinson told police that "the text messages and his intentions were taken out of context," according to the report. Robinson told police he was only trying to be a "big brother" for the boy.

According to the report, Robinson said he didn't believe he did anything wrong and felt that he was being targeted by the boy because of his sexual orientation.

Police said they found 14 condoms and two tubes of sexual lubricant in Robinson's backpack.
