Surveillance video captures thieves stealing rims, tires off SUV in southwest Miami-Dade

Victim says neighbor's rims previously stolen

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A southwest Miami-Dade family said they were sleeping Wednesday morning when thieves stole the rims and tires off their SUV.

Christina Pariente said two men made their way to her home sometime after 4:30 a.m. with their eyes set on the BMW SUV  parked in her driveway along Southwest 61st Street.

She said the men got out of a white car somewhere out of the view of her surveillance cameras and walked over to her property, examining the SUV.

She said they removed the rims and tires.

At one point, one of the men noticed a camera pointed at them and turned it, not realizing that a second camera was still rolling.

Pariente said she, her husband and newborn baby were sleeping at the time and never heard anything.

The family just moved to the area this summer and normally parks the SUV inside the garage.

Pariente said she also caught the same white car on surveillance video the night before scoping out the home while they were sleeping.

For this new mother, knowing that people were preying on her house left her feeling nervous and unsettled.

"For me it was a really big safety issue, especially when I found out that they came by the night before," Pariente said. "We have perimeter lights on our property, and for them to know and watch and scope the house out, and wait for the lights to turn off and have the timing perfect, was a very scary thought for me."

Pariente said the rims are worth about $5,000.

She said her neighbor's rims have also been stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
