SUNRISE, Fla. – The FBI is investigating a robbery of a Brinks guard outside a credit union in Sunrise.
The robbery happened at Space Coast Credit Union, located at 7751 W. Oakland Park Boulevard, just before 10 a.m. Thursday.
Surveillance video captured two robbers approach the guard as he was walking into the bank, said the FBI. They made him lay flat on the ground, grabbed his money bag, and ran off.
The guard got up and shot at the robbers. The FBI believes he hit the driver in the leg.
An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
"This is a very traumatic experience for anybody to go through but he is doing fine. There are no other injuries to the guards other than it was a traumatic experience," said FBI special agent Michael Leverock.
The FBI said blood was found inside the first getaway vehicle, a white Honda Accord, which was found on the opposite end of the parking lot. The car had bullet holes in the drivers side and agents found a handgun inside the vehicle.
A second getaway vehicle, a silver four-door sedan resembling a 2001 Lexus ES300, was seen leaving the parking lot. Witnesses said the car had a rear spoiler and a dent near the trunk keyhole.
Sunrise Police asked those working in Miami-Dade and Broward County hospitals to call police if someone was admitted with a gunshot wound.
"We believe one of the suspects was injured by the gunfire and we are looking for the publics help," said Leverock.
Brinks is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The reward offer expires Jan. 27.
