Hialeah man dies in Florida's Turnpike crash in Broward County

Driver of Nissan Maxima dies after crashing into tractor-trailer

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 30-year-old man who lived in Hialeah died in a Saturday car crash on Florida's Turnpike in Broward County. 

Andres Betancur was driving a 2013 Nissan Maxima behind Julio I. Perez Melendrez, who was driving a 1994 Volvo tractor-trailer.

They were both traveling northbound on the turnpike, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

Melendrez told authorities Betancur struck the back of the tractor trailer. After the impact, authorities said Betancur's Nissan burst into flames. 

Betancur was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
