Former Heat guard Ray Allen hosts charity golf tournament

Former Heat guard Ray Allen hit the biggest shot in Heat history.  Now he’s set to take some shots on the golf course to raise some big money for education.

The Ray Allen Loews Miami Beach Hotel Celebrity golf tournament is this Friday, October 20th, and the event will benefit DonorsChoose.org, the Foundation for New Education Initiatives and Allen’s own Ray of Hope foundation.

 

Allen has kept busy in Miami following his NBA career; including opening a restaurant in South Miami named Grown.

 

He’s also an avid golfer, and after often playing in this annual tournament, he once again adds his name to it.

 

Now in its 7th year, the tournament will bring together sports and entertainment greats to raise money for these educational programs.

 

In 2016, the event raised $75,000 benefiting Miami-Dade County education.

 

“The success of last year’s event allowed us to provide essential technology for students in Miami-Dade, proving that coming together to generate awareness for our teachers and school programming really does make an impact,” said Ray Allen. “I’m excited to partner with Loews Miami Beach Hotel once again and look forward to continuing to raise funds for the Ray of Hope Foundation, DonorsChoose and The Foundation for New Education Initiatives.”

 

Along with Allen, Alonzo Mourning, Eddie Jones, Luis Fonsi, Shane Battier, DJ Irie, Jim Jackson and Placido Polanco, among others, will be taking part.

 

The tournament has raised has raised more than $350,000 in resources for classrooms and students across Miami-Dade since 2011.
