MIAMI ā€“ While the Marlins could never get Derek Jeter on the field in uniform, they may soon have him in the owner's box.

A Fox Business report claims the former Yankees All-Star is interested in buying the Marlins from owner Jeffrey Loria.

According to the report, a possible bid has progressed to where talks are currently ongoing between Jeter's representatives and Marlins president David Samson.

However, the future Hall of Famer isn't alone in his quest to buy the Marlins.

The report says former Florida Governor Jeb Bush heads another group that is teaming up with Citigroup to finance a bid. A third group is also considered to be a possibility.

Loria is expected to sell the Marlins after this season in a deal that could come as soon as this summer. The unpopular team owner would stand to make more than $1 billion in a sale.

Local 10 contacted the Marlins and they had no comment.
