Miami Marlins ready for fans to ‘bring the noise’ on Opening Day

HIALEAH, Fla. – The Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates will kick off their 2024 seasons on Thursday at loanDepot Park.

Skip Schumaker enters his second season as the Marlins manager and will look to lead the team to their second straight postseason appearance.

The Marlins finished the regular season in 2023 with an 84-78 record and were swept 2-0 in the National League Wildcard Series by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jesus Luzardo gets the call as the Marlins’ Opening Day starter. He will go head-to-head with Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller.

In 2023, Luzardo finished in the top 10 among NL starters in ERA, strikeout rate and WAR rating.

It was a tough spring training for the Miami starting pitching rotation as Braxton Garrett (shoulder), Eury Perez (elbow) and Edward Cabrera (shoulder) will all begin the season on the MLB’s Injured List.

The Marlins also announced that starting pitcher and former CY Young award winner Sandy Alcantara will miss the entire regular season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last October to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Fans will be allowed to bring instruments that include trumpets, tambourines, panderos and congas into the stadium, but pots and pans are not allowed.

Schumaker told Local 10 News he’s hoping Opening Day will be a true “home field advantage.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the atmosphere is,” said Schumaker. “I’ve played in Venezuela and it was a great idea by our marketing team to allow fans to bring instruments into the stadium and bring the noise.”

Baseball is officially back in South Florida and the opening pitch is set for 4:10 p.m.

The Marlins announced their Opening Day roster just before noon, which you can read here:
