Heat mural defaced after LeBron decision, repainted

Mural's artist took 2 years to create Wynwood mural, not upset about defacing

MIAMI – Serge Toussaint is the artist behind the often-photographed mural in Wynwood featuring a line of fierce-looking Miami Heat players.

When news broke that LeBron James would be returning to Cleveland, someone vandalized it, spray-painting over the King's face.

Only James' face was defaced in the mural, at Northeast 29th Street between Miami Avenue and First Avenue, which also includes other members of the Heat's 2012 NBA championship team.

At one point during the day, Filmmaker Billy Corben posted this picture on Twitter below. It shows a fan known as "Cool Richard" using a cut-out of James' face to cover the spray paint.  It included a caption that said in part "Miami has more class than that."

But Toussaint wasn't at all upset when he heard the news that someone had painted over his mural. In fact, he said he agreed with the vandal's sentiments.

"?It's not wrong at all," he said.

Toussaint said he was inspired by James' move to the Heat.

"I mean, I spent two months in the hot sun painting this, bro. You were like our idol, bro," said Toussaint.

With paint bucket and brushes in hand, Toussaint painted over the black spray paint covering James' face with the word "Queen." He said he was giving his idol a demotion in title.

Toussaint said he had always hoped to meet James. Now, he wonders who might replace his image when he gets around to repainting the mural.

"I still love the man, but now we got no love for you, man."

No one knows yet who defaced the mural.
