2 yachts go up in flames in Fort Lauderdale

Fire contained to 2 boats engulfed in flames Sunday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No injuries were reported after two yachts were engulfed in flames, according to Fort Lauderdale firefighters.

Witnesses captured the blaze as a 65-foot yacht and a 50-foot yacht caught fire, sending flames and plumes of dark smoke in the air.

The fires were spotted about 6:45 a.m. Sunday at a marina located off State Road 84 and Southwest 27th Avenue.

No description found

Fort Lauderdale firefighters surrounded the marina, using everything they had to put it out.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to other boats or buildings.

"There were several other vessels tied to these boats," Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Heiser said. "They broke those off so the fire didn't spread to those vessels."

The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
