OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – A man was killed and two people were critically injured after a shooting and stabbing inside an Opa-locka apartment complex Tuesday night, Miami-Dade police said.
Police were called to the apartments at 165 Kalander Street just before 7 p.m. after receiving reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man in a hallway suffering from gunshot and stab wounds.
Miami-Dade police Detective Marjorie Eloi said officers followed a trail of blood to a nearby apartment, where another man was found dead and a woman had been stabbed.
The surviving victims were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where they were listed in critical condition.
Eloi said a man is being detained for questioning. The victim killed in the shooting has been identified as 27-year-old Jonas Covington. The identities of the suspect and the other victims have not been released.
Police said a motive is unclear at this time.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
