POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A woman was found dead in her sport utility vehicle on the side of Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach on Monday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said a Road Ranger stopped after seeing the SUV on the shoulder of northbound I-95 just north of Atlantic Boulevard about 6:40 a.m.

When the Road Ranger attempted to talk to the driver, he found she was unresponsive, Wysocky said.

Paramedics were called and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She was identified as Colleen Shroy Morningstar, 53, of Fort Lauderdale.

Morningstar, who was unemployed, has had a history of run-ins with law enforcement, including a couple of traffic infractions dating to 2002 and a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana in 2003.

Her cause of death remains under investigation.
