PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – The wife of Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was arrested Thursday by Pembroke Pines police on a domestic violence charges.
Lynette Taylor, 42, appeared Friday morning in Broward County court and asked the judge how she could possibly hurt a 300-pound linebacker.
According to an arrest report, Lynette and Lawrence Taylor got into an argument Thursday and Lynette Taylor threw an object across the family room, which struck her husband in the back of his head while he was standing in the kitchen area.
Police said the former football player suffered a 3-inch laceration to the back of his head.
Police were called to the home, and Lawrence Taylor's wife told an officer, "Yeah, I threw it at him," the report said.
Police said Lynette Taylor was sitting in an armchair and refused to get up multiple times when officers were trying to place her into custody.
The report said she tensed up her body, pulled away from officers, tried to strike officers with her arms and legs and yelled profanities at the officers.
According to the report, Lynette Taylor would not allow the arresting officer to read her Miranda Warnings, and kept interrupting him and saying that she did not understand.
While in custody, she told officers, "Yeah, I beat his ass ... I made him bleed," the report said. She later told them that she was being sarcastic.
Lynette Taylor denied the accusations a day later when she appeared in bond court.
"That's a lie. My husband is a 300-pound linebacker. I didn't hit him in the head. Yes, I'm Lawrence Taylor's wife. He lied," Lynette Taylor told Broward County Judge John Hurley.
"Not the Lawrence Taylor?" Hurley asked.
"L.T., yes … We had an argument and he lied to the police," Lynette Taylor said.
Lynette Taylor, who was not injured during the altercation, faces charges of battery and resisting an officer without violence. The report said her husband does not wish to prosecute.
She was ordered to stay at least 500 feet away from her husband and to only communicate with him through a third party. Her bond was set at $2,500.
Lawrence Taylor is a former linebacker for the New York Giants. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year spent his entire 13-year professional career with the Giants, winning two Super Bowls under head coach Bill Parcells.
