Video shows fired Miami Beach police sergeant drinking in uniform

Paperwork says Sgt. Mike Muley had at least 6 drinks while working off-duty

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ Surveillance video released Wednesday by the Miami Beach Police Department shows a former police sergeant drinking while working off-duty at a nightclub last July.

Sgt. Mike Muley was fired for his actions last week.

According to the paperwork obtained by Local 10 News, Muley had at least six alcoholic drinks (double vodka and cranberry) while in uniform.

The video shows Muley with a drink in his hand while being hugged by a woman outside Mango's Tropical CafƩ on Ocean Drive.

Another video shows him sipping a drink while sitting in an office at Fat Tuesday.

As the drinking progressed, the paperwork said, Muley began to feel the effects of the alcohol, as the video shows him appear to stumble throughout the bar.

The video shows him jokingly draw his gun from his holster. Later, the video shows him appear to vomit just off camera on the sidewalk next to the entrance.

Muley is later seen drinking a bottle of water and sitting on a stool behind the bar.

The video also shows a manager lead Muley to a room at the hotel next door. Minutes later, the paperwork said, Muley wandered away and was spotted by a lieutenant who received an anonymous call about an intoxicated police officer partying on South Beach.

Miami Beach police Chief Daniel Oates said Friday that Muley "terribly embarrassed" the city.

The incident led to the Miami Beach Police Department suspending its policy of allowing officers to work off-duty security jobs in the city.

"We are disappointed in the city's decision to terminate Sgt. Muley," Muley's attorney told Local 10. "We are confident that when all facts come to light, Sgt. Muley will be reinstated."

Muley was a 15-year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department.
