MIRAMAR, Fla. – A teenager was stunned with a Taser gun after trespassing at Miramar High School and running from a police officer, Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said.
The teen disobeyed commands from the school resource officer to leave the school because he was not allowed on school property, Rues said.
According to Rues, the teen is a former student who had been suspended. She said the boy's mother withdrew him from the school on Dec. 2, but the boy has returned each day around dismissal to hang out with friends.
Rues said the teen had been warned several times that he was not allowed on school property.
The police officer was forced to deploy her Taser after chasing the boy into the nearby Woodscape community, Rues said. It's unclear why the officer felt the need to use her Taser, but Rues said the officer was taking the teen into custody when the incident occurred.
Students told Local 10 News reporter Amy Viteri that they didn't hear about the Taser incident and weren't sure what to make of it.
"A child -- you shouldn't really do that to them, but at the same time you're not supposed to be on the school since you're suspended," student Laonce Patterson said.
The boy faces charges of trespassing, resisting arrest without violence and disruption of a school function.
Rues said the boy was medically cleared at the scene before being taken into custody.
