MIAMI – A teenager who attended Northwestern Senior High School was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday night.
Miami police confirmed the fatal shooting happened just before 10 p.m. at Northwest Third Avenue and Northwest 53rd Street.
Police said the teen, identified as Randall Robinson III, 17, was walking with a friend when someone pulled up in car and fired at Robinson.
"We believe he was the intended target because his friend was not hurt, but we do know that perhaps somebody may know something else that perhaps we don't know," Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said. "Someone must have seen something. Perhaps somebody may know what their reason behind the shooting is. Right now, we don't have a motive, we don't have a make or model (of the car and) we don't have a description of the shooter."
Robinson was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members said Robinson, previously played on the football and wrestling teams at his high school.
"It's ridiculous that we live in a community like this and we're losing lives, and it could be anybody," Robinson's classmate, Elizabeth Dumont, said.
Early Friday morning, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho expressed his outrage on Twitter.
"Another senseless and cowardly drive-by shooting claims the life of a 17-year-old boy in Miami," the tweet said. "I cannot help but sense anger in my prayer!"
Dozens of Robinson's friends and family members gathered Friday night at the shooting site for a candlelight vigil and prayer.
Robinson's mother, Neikole Hunt, said her son was a kind and loving person.
"I want every one who's out there who has a son, daughter, mother, father sister, brother -- love them every day as if it was their last day," Hunt said.
The shooting comes days after a Miami Northwestern Senior High School student died when he was shot multiple times while standing outside of a home.
Another Northwestern Senior High School student, Joewuan Coles, 15, was fatally shot in May.
