HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A suspect who was wounded in a police-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Homestead has died.
Homestead police Detective Fernando Morales said the shooting happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. at Southwest 187th Avenue and Southwest 328th Street.
Witnesses told Local 10 News that the officer fired at the suspect four times.
According to multiple people in the area, the officer jumped out of his car and shot a man who was walking along the street. Witnesses said they did not hear the officer yell any commands at the man before the shooting.
Police said the officer in question was dispatched after someone called 911 to report a man armed with a gun, but his sister said that wasn't true.
"My brother did not walk out with a gun," she told Local 10 News.
Police have not corroborated the witnesses' claims.
A witness said other officers arrived at the scene quickly and performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the suspect was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Morales said the officer was not hurt.
Miami-Dade police are investigating the shooting.
