Sunrise woman admits to beating man to death, police say

Rosemarie Farid, 40, posted Facebook statuses fantasizing about hurting victim

SUNRISE, Fla. – A woman from Sunrise has been arrested after police say she admitted to severely beating a man she lived with, and then stealing his cellphone so he couldn't call for help.

Police said Rosemarie Farid, 40, admitted to beating Donald Galvagni, 64, inside his home at 8397 NW 25 Court June 30.

His body was discovered inside his bathtub by his friend July 2. The friend notified police, who discovered a pink handbag and pills belonging to Farid. Police tracked Farid down at Florida Medical Center where she was being involuntarily held in an unrelated incident with an acquaintance.

Investigators said Farid claimed she and Galvagni got into a verbal argument after she allowed her dog to come inside the house. She said she pushed Galvagni, causing him to fall and strike his head on the tile and cement entryway near the bathroom. She said she then got on top of Galvagni and continued to smash his head against the floor.

Investigators said Farid also admitted that she stole the victim's cellphone so that he wouldn't be able to call police after the attack. They say she also stole $50 from his wallet.

Farid's public Facebook page shows that she often had thoughts of harming Galvagni. She also admitted to the beating that left him dead in a video posted to the social media site.

A medical examiner ruled that Galvagni suffered a head injury, which caused him to lose a substantial amount of blood, and eventually died after he went into cardiac arrest.

Farid is charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Broward main jail without bond.
