MIAMI – A South Florida doctor was arrested Tuesday in connection with a 2014 crash that killed a pedestrian.
Eric Spivack, 61, of Sunny Isles Beach, faces a charge of DUI manslaughter stemming from the August 2014 crash on Northeast 163rd Street near Northeast 35th Avenue in North Miami Beach.
An arrest warrant obtained Wednesday by Local 10 News said Spivack was driving east on Northeast 163rd Street when he struck and killed a pedestrian, Yakov Duboshinskiy, 77, who was crossing at Northeast 35th Avenue.
Police said Spivack had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol.
A toxicology test later determined that Spivack had a blood-alcohol level of .087 percent, slightly higher than the state's legal limit of .08 percent, and had codeine in his system.
The cardiologist was arrested at Aventura Hospital, where he works.
A judge set Spivack's bond at $30,000 and ordered that he be fitted with a GPS monitoring device upon his release. The judge also ordered that an ignition interlock device be installed on Spivack's car.
