Snorkeler hit by boat propeller at Haulover Inlet

Victim airlifted to hospital

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A snorkeler was airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after he was hit by a boat propeller at Haulover Inlet, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue tweeted.

Sky 10 was above the scene at about 2 p.m. as paramedics removed the man from an ambulance and placed him inside a helicopter.

Fire officials said the victim suffered severe lacerations to his arm.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials who were called to the scene, the victim and two of his friends had traveled into the water on a small boat, before they went snorkeling.

At some point, another boat ran over the victim, with the propeller cutting him deeply. FWC said the father of the boat's driver arrived at the scene with his attorney and was taken in for questioning.

Investigators are speaking with witnesses to determine the speed of the boat, the exact location of the incident and how the boat managed to strike the man.

The victim's identity has not been released.
