MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A slaughtered horse was found Sunday morning in Southwest Miami-Dade, officials from the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.
The carcass as found between Southwest 187th Avenue and Southwest 180th Street.

"The horse was an older, gray Paso Fino, a popular breed in South Florida," Dio Benitez, SFSPCA ranch manager, said in a media release. "I couldn’t tell if it was male or female, only the head, skeleton and some intestines were left. Even its hide was gone."
Kathleen Monahan, president of SFSPCA, said these incidents happen "all too often" in Miami-Dade County.
"There is a demand for horse meat for human consumption among those who believe it has medicinal and/or magical qualities," Monathan said in a media release. "Unfortunately, this meat is toxic due to the vaccinations and regular medications that horses are given here, many known to cause cancer in humans."
The organization is urging horse owners to be extra vigilant with their animals and warns the public to not consume any horse meat due to its health hazards.
