FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – Police are investigating an early-morning armed robbery at a Denny's restaurant that led to a shot being fired, and it was all caught on camera.
The armed robbery happened at 2:35 a.m. Monday at the restaurant at 401 SE First Ave.
Florida City police said two robbers entered the restaurant wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks to conceal their faces. The two were also wearing purple gloves and were armed with an unknown type of handguns.
One robber grabbed an employee at gunpoint and directed her to open the cash register. Police said the second robber went to the back of the restaurant, where he pointed his firearm at an employee and demanded his wallet.
The second robber then went to the front of the restaurant, pointed his firearm at two patrons and demanded their wallets, police said.
The two robbers then proceeded to the exit. At the door, one robber dropped the money from the register. A shot was then discharged from the firearm but did not strike anyone, according to Florida City police.
The robbers, described by Florida City police as black males, then left the eatery and fled the scene in an older model blue Hyundai Accent with an unknown license plate tag.
"I never heard of anything happening like this before," customer Borris Marshall said.
It was business as usual again Sunday night at the restaurant, but some customers who spoke to Local 10 News said they're shocked by what a pair of crooks were able to do in just 50 seconds.
"To know that this place got robbed, it makes you worry now," Marshall said.
Anyone with information about this armed robbery is asked to call Detective Joe Shiver at the Florida City Police Department at 305-247-8223 (ext. 314). Tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
