PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., is recovering after undergoing surgery in Washington to remove prostate cancer.
Doctors said Monday's surgery was "a complete success," Nelson's deputy press secretary, Emily Rogers, said.

The third-term senator announced Thursday that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
"Bill wants to thank all the people in Florida and elsewhere who sent prayers and well wishes," his wife, Grace Nelson, said after the operation. "The doctors, nurses and staff caring for him are all just great."
The senator's recovery is expected to take at least a week.
