Scottish soldier's body found on sidewalk along Biscayne Boulevard

Shaun Cole, 22, collapses, dies while vacationing in Miami

MIAMI – A man whose body was found on a sidewalk along Biscayne Boulevard in Miami was a Scottish soldier who was visiting for the Ultra Music Festival, Local 10 News crime specialist John Turchin has learned.

The body was discovered Sunday morning on the east side of Biscayne Boulevard between 80th and 81st streets, a few feet away from a CrossFit gym.

Shaun Cole, 22, was on vacation with two friends for the downtown Miami music festival, Turchin reported Monday. The private from Edinburgh, Scotland, returned last month from a tour of duty in Sierra Leone with the Royal Scots Borderers, protecting in the fight against Ebola.

Witnesses said they saw Cole running and bleeding from his ears when he suddenly collapsed and died. It wasn't known if he was running for exercise or from something or someone.

"I think people have a lot of questions about just why this has happened and what exactly did happen," Scottish reporter Gordon Chree told Turchin in a Skype interview.

Cole and his friends had been staying at the Royal Budget Inn, just a few blocks away from where his body was found.

Miami police haven't released much information about the death investigation other than calling it "unclassified."
