MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are searching for two gunmen who shot and killed a 60-year-old rabbi in northeast Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade police said Joseph Raksin was walking to a temple near Northeast 175th Street and Northeast Eighth Court about 9 a.m. Saturday when two men approached him.
Police said the men got into an altercation and Raksin was shot.
Raksin was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.
One of the gunmen fled the scene on a bike and the other ran away.
Raksin was observing the sabbath by walking to temple when he was shot. He was visiting from New York.
"This is a terrible tragedy," Hava Holzhauer, Florida regional director of the Anti-Demation League, said in a statement. "While the motivation for this crime is still being investigated, nothing can justify the killing of an innocent man walking to his place of worship to pray on his holy day."
