MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police are looking for the burglar who broke into a home in Miramar earlier this month and stole a pricey coin collection.
The burglary happened April 1 at a home on Cluster Road off Miramar Parkway.
According to police, a coin collection valued at $35,000, jewelry and other items were taken from the home.
"It's a very low blow because we are people who work, people who do an honest living. And these people --they did a lot of damage," homeowner Anibal Godoy said.
Godoy said he had just moved into the home two days before his home was burglarized.
Godoy said he had been collecting the coins for more than 25 years. Among the items stolen were a watch and a rare dollar bill.
Godoy said he was gone for not even two hours when he came home to find that someone had broken in through the garage window.
Godoy said not only were the items personal to him and his wife, but it was also financial security for the two. He said after he and his wife just lost their baby to cancer this year, this is just too much to deal with.
"It was a very difficult time," Godoy said as he held back tears. "And now this."
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
