PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. ā Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim KaineĀ spoke at events in Broward and Miami-Dade counties on Saturday -- during the last weekend before the Florida primary on Tuesday.Ā
His visits to the Southwest Focal Point Senior Center in Pembroke Pines and the Design South Florida production company in Miami Lakes were part of his third trip to Florida since joining Hillary Clinton's ticket last month.
Florida remains the largest swing state in the nation.Ā
During his speech in Pembroke Pines, Kaine asked the elected officials in the room -- including Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Debbi Wasserman Schultz -- to "pound" on the voter registration issue and do everything in their power to support Clinton.Ā
KaineĀ also criticizedĀ Gov. Rick Scott and other Republicans in Florida for their lack of action when it comes to global warming and the sea level rise and added that he thinks Floridians are like Virginians -- "we are pro-science people."
When he was on the attack,Ā KaineĀ compared Trump's values to "socialĀ darwinism" and described the Republican presidential candidate as a "me first, everyone else move aside" type of guy.Ā
He also talked about his reference on Friday in Tallahassee of an alleged association of values between Trump and the Ku Klux Klan.Ā
"I didn't say that yesterday," he said. "What I said was, he's got guys connected to the Ku Klux Klan who are out, they're claiming. And his record -- sometimes he doesn't disabuse that, and sometimes he seems willing to take advantage of that, and I find that very troubling."
