DAVIE, Fla. – A brush fire that was burning close to homes Thursday morning in Davie is under control.
The fire started early Wednesday morning near Southwest 55th Avenue and Southwest 54th Street, but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
A battalion chief who spoke to Local 10 News reporter Ben Kennedy said firefighters used about 3,000 gallons of water to put out the brush fire.
"There's not many fire hydrants" in the area, so firefighters had to shuttle water to the neighborhood, Robert DiFerdinando said.
He said the fire was about 300 feet by 300 feet and was moving quickly because of the wind, causing him to deploy more firefighters.
Firefighters at the scene were looking for hot spots and making sure the fire didn't flare up again.
