Off-duty officer injured in Miami-Dade crash, officials say

Officer taken to hospital as trauma alert

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An off-duty police officer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital after being involved in a crash Sunday, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

Officials said the crash, which happened at the intersection of 131st Street and Northwest Seventh Avenue, involved a car and a motorcycle.

The car involved in the crash was a North Miami Police Department cruiser.

The officer was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert, according to MDFR.

Authorities said the motorcyclist was also taken to the hospital. The patients' conditions have not been released.

Witnesses told Local 10 News that they heard a loud boom before seeing the police cruiser smashed against a tree and the motorcycle in pieces on the roadway.

The impact of the collision was so forceful that it apparently knocked the motorcyclist out of their shoes.

Police are investigating what led up to the crash.
