MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The safety of residents and children out for Halloween was a top concern for Miami-Dade police Monday after a pursuit led to a non-contact officer-involved shooting in southwest Miami-Dade County, police said.
Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody after the incident, which took place at an apartment complex near Dadeland Mall, between Southwest 84th Street and Southwest 72nd Court.

Police said the pursuit began about 7:15 p.m. when two officers discovered a man driving a stolen car at Southwest 82nd Avenue and Bird Road. When police attempted to pull the man over, he refused to stop, Zabaleta said.
A chase ensued.
The man stopped at a dead end, where he struck two cars.
Police then opened fire, hitting the older-model Cadillac, which the man ditched at the corner of Southwest 84th Street and Southwest 72nd Court before he ran off, Zabaleta said.
A witness said she saw the suspect from her balcony and helped police track him down.
Police vehicles and crime scene tape lined the complex Monday night while parents and their little ones, in full costume and carrying their haul for the night, made the best of a scary situation.
