KEY WEST, Fla. – A U.S. Navy pilot was rescued Wednesday afternoon after his F-5N aircraft crashed into the ocean near Key West, the U.S. Coast Guard reports.
The pilot ejected from the plane and was found about 20 nautical miles southwest of Key West.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard 7th District Command Center were notified about the crash shortly after 1 p.m. that the Navy jet pilot was in the water and needed assistance, a media release said.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Miami and a Coast Guard airplane crew then conducted a search.
By 1:15 p.m., an emergency smoke signal was spotted and the pilot was located in the water.
The pilot was rescued and taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. The pilot was listed in good condition.
