MIAMI – A Miami mother accused of severely beating her 3-month-old baby boy in January made her first court appearance Wednesday.
Jimmy Lee Pierre, 24, is charged with child abuse with great bodily harm and torture. She is being held on $25,000 bail and has been ordered to be placed on house arrest with a GPS if she posts bail.
Police said the alleged abuse happened the night of New Year's Eve. The baby was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. According to police reports, he suffered multiple skull fractures, subdural hematomas, retinal hemorrhages and a rib fracture.
Police said Pierre appeared to be confused and under the influence of alcohol when she was arrested.
