Monique Smith cashes $4,655 worth of grandfather's stolen checks, deputies say

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A Deerfield Beach woman is accused of stealing blank checks from her grandfather and scamming him out of more than $4,600.

Monique Smith faces charges of grand theft.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said Smith stole eight checks from her 79-year-old grandfather and cashed them at various locations without his knowledge or permission.

Deputies said the total amount cashed was $4,655.

Court records show that Smith was on probation on drug possession charges.
