MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – For the first time in 15 years, Miami-Dade County's school teachers have completed a contract agreement with the school district prior to the first day of school, according to Fedrick Ingram, president of United Teachers of Dade.
Union negotiators and their counterparts at Miami-Dade County Public Schools signed the contract Friday afternoon. The 2015/16 school year begins Monday.
Highlights of the $52 million contract include an average 3 percent increase in teacher salaries and salaries of non-and structural employees under the umbrella of the UTD, such as security monitors and clinical personnel.
There will be no increase in health insurance costs. The health insurance deduction calculations have been changed to make more union members eligible for a decrease in health insurance premiums.
The new contract took effect July 1.
