Men rescued from capsized boat near Fisher Island

Bait well overflows on boat; Wave causes boat to overturn

MIAMI – A bait fishing trip ended abruptly for five boaters after their boat overturned Friday morning in rough waters off Fisher Island.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue found all five clinging to the keel of the overturned vessel.

"Their bilge pump was not working," Lt. Leonel Reyes, who was on the rescue boat, told Local 10 News. "These guys were fishing for bait and the bait well was overflowing on the vessel. A wave came and turned them over."

The men were not injured. They could be seen smiling and laughing on the rescue boat.

All five men were brought back to the marina on Watson Island from where they had launched.

"The boat sunk," one of the men said when asked by Local 10 News reporter Glenna Milberg what happened.
