MIAMI – A man accused with working at an illegal slaughter house in Homestead and selling horse meat to undercover detectives will spend a year behind bars.
Jesus Navarro, 51, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of animal cruelty.

The incident took place back in Dec. 24, 2012, at VIP Animal Sales near Southwest 257th Street and Krome Avenue. Navarro was arrested for selling $1,300 in horse meat to undercover detectives.
Navarro, along with several other men are accused of torturing and brutally slaughtering animals for meat for the last several decades.
Navarro will serve 364 days in jail with credit for time served. He's not allowed to work with or own animals.
