MIAMI – Miami police homicide detectives had a busy day on their hands Sunday, investigating three shootings in the city, all of them taking place during daylight hours.
About 12:15 p.m., police said, Maurice Alexander Cabrera, 21, was on his bicycle with his girlfriend and her friend at 45th Street and Fifth Street. A car with at least two people inside pulled up, and someone inside fired shots. Cabrera died after being shot multiple times.
"It may look like they might have stepped out of the car," Officer Rene Pimentel said. "There are casings still on the scene."
In a separate incident, Reginald Killings, 30, was killed after being shot multiple times about 10 a.m. outside his home at 5644 NW Fourth Ave. Police said he attempted to run inside his home but collapsed at the door before dying.
Late Sunday afternoon, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the face at Northwest 65th Street and 15th Avenue. He was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The circumstances behind the shooting are still unclear.
"This is not something that we can handle by ourselves," Pimentel said. "This is something that the public needs to help us with."
Anyone with any information on any of the shootings is asked to contact Miami police.
