Fatal tractor trailer crash, fire shuts down southbound lanes of I-75

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A tractor trailer crash and fire caused a rush hour traffic nightmare on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle was going south on I-75 just after 5 p.m. when it hit a guardrail and collided into two structural pillars of the Miami Gardens Drive overpass.

The driver of the tractor trailer was unable to get out and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

All southbound lanes of I-75 were closed and traffic was being diverted to Florida’s Turnpike.

The truck was hauling dumpsters and other heavy metals. Debris could be seen scattered across the highway after the crash.

According to FHP, engineers from the Florida Department of Transportation were at the scene to assess any damage to the overpass.

All lanes have since reopened.
