‘I’ll light you the f--- up,’ Broward man says before trying to set girlfriend ablaze, cops say

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A newly-obtained audio recording shows an argument that led up to what deputies said was an Oakland Park man trying to set his now-ex-girlfriend on fire while she was holding her child.

Mark Confessore, 40, is facing several felony charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the May 1 incident.

Broward County deputies said the pair had been arguing and decided they needed a separation when things took a violent and almost deadly turn.

Confessore is accused of dousing his girlfriend with lighter fluid.

“I’ll light you the f--- up right now,” he allegedly says in the recording.

The victim, who asked not to be identified, spoke with Local 10 News, saying she screamed for him to stop.

“He was with a cigarette in his hand and the lighter… he started to do the lighter...my son came and pushed him,” she said. “He started to take that liquid again and he came back and start to do it to my face.”

The woman said that’s when Confessore retrieved and started to load bullets. Her 17-year-old son once again stepped up to defend his mother and siblings.

“Yes we argued but this doesn’t mean you have to kill me,” the woman said.

Confessore is due back in a Broward County courtroom Thursday.

The victim said she and her three kids now need financial assistance. They’ve created a GoFundMe page.
