New safety measures to be introduced on I-95 express lanes in Miami-Dade

Move comes after concerns over safety for public, law enforcement officers

MIAMI – Local 10 News has learned that the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Highway Patrol will announce new safety features for the Interstate 95 express lanes in Miami-Dade County.

Local 10 learned Wednesday that all of the plastic poles will be replaced on I-95 in Miami-Dade County. The new poles will be more sturdy and will be placed 5 feet apart, instead of 10 feet apart as they currently are.

"Hopefully, this will deter people from cutting in and out and causing the dangerous conditions," an FDOT source told Local 10.

Recently, Local 10 has done several stories highlighting the danger on the I-95 express lanes, with driver cutting in and out of the plastic poles as if they don't even exist.

Those plans and new specific undisclosed safety features are expected to be announced at a news conference Thursday.
