According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Nissan Sentra ran over an aluminum ladder in the middle of the highway and slowed down when it was rear-ended by a City Furniture truck, which overturned and landed on its side.

The impact sent the car into the grass shoulder before it crashed into a wooden utility pole, killing the driver. He was identified Thursday as Hector Erazo, 49, of Coral Springs.

Two people in the City Furniture truck were taken to a Naples hospital with minor injuries. They were identified as driver Anncordella Jeffers, 43, of West Park, and Leon Lake, 35, of Lauderdale Lakes.

I-75 is a north-south highway, but Alligator Alley connects southwest Florida to South Florida.
