BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Hillel Day School of Boca Raton was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after ammunition was found behind the campus, authorities said.

The president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County released a statement shortly after the incident, saying police believe that the incident stemmed from criminal activity in the area.

"Early this morning, schools located on our campus were locked down as a preventative security measure. Based on reports from local law enforcement, there was no threat whatsoever to our schools or campus, and the schools are no longer locked down," Matthew C. Levin said. "Authorities believe the situation resulted from criminal activity in an adjacent neighborhood."

"As always, the security of those on our campus is our Federation's highest priority. We are proud of our security team that quickly mobilized and is ever-aware and highly prepared to protect our students, visitors and residents."

It's unclear who left the ammunition behind.
